Hermes is Kino's faithful travelling companion and main means of traversing the world. He is a carefully designed motorbike with the ability to talk. I believe that Herme's sometimes takes on a more outspoken role than Kino, by being cynical or making observations to comment on events, this helps the story move along more. Herme's inquisitiveness also helps us have more of an insight into the character of Kino aswell as the world. Overall, I believe Herme's not only helps Kino travel over the world but also helps us, the viewers, travel deeper into some of the aspects of the world, in terms of insight.
